Local Manager Information

This page contains sign-up instructions, informational packets, sample flyers, and other pertinent information for local managers of the WxChallenge. If a local manager requires any other information, please contact us at the Contact page.

Sign-Up Instructions

To get a team signed up for a season, please follow these steps as closely as possible to avoid any delay in your team's registration process.
  • Advertise the contest to prospective students, faculty, and staff. WxChallenge recommends using flyers (see below), talking directly to classes, leaving information with professors to discuss with their students, and department-wide mass email lists.
  • If you wish to have certain classes separated from the rest of your University so that professors can use the challenge as part of their class, please contact the WxChallenge Manager with the class listing (i.e. METR 4424), the class times, and the professor's name. A Class Id will be set up for each class. This Class ID must be given to the students before signing up. Please note that the forecasters that participate as a class are also participating as part of their University.
  • Have each student fill out a Sign-up Form and turn it into the local manager. This sign-up form will be kept by the local manager and does not need to be sent into the WxChallenge manager.
  • Collect entry fees for each participant. Once your team has been assembled, please send in the entry fee payments via Check (made out to "University of Oklahoma" NOT "Brad Illston" and NOT "WxChallenge") or Cashier's Check to the WxChallenge Manager. The address is listed on the Contact webpage. Please make sure the team name (and three letter identification) is written on the check to ensure that your payment is processed properly. The payments do not need to be sent in by the registration date, but receipt of the payments by the end of the first period is preferred.
  • Use the online registration page to register all of your forecasters. You may view your team's current roster on the online roster page. You will need to contact the WxChallenge manager to obtain the password for your school to access the registration and roster pages. This password is for the local manager only and is not to be distributed to anyone else.
  • Your team is now registered to compete. Good luck.

Mid-Season Adjustments

Between the Fall and Spring semesters, teams can make a few adjustments to their rosters. Local managers can make the following adjustments:
  • Teams can add new participants.
  • Teams may NOT remove old participants.
  • Teams may adjust forecaster information (email address, password, ClassID, etc.) as long as it pertains to the same forecaster. (e.g. accounts can not be transferred to someone else)
  • Participants who signed up for the Fall only can change their account to a Full account after submitting the Spring entree fee.
  • The entry fee for both new forecasters and those who were Fall and now want to continue on into the Spring is $3.00. The Fall forecasters who already paid $3.00 in the Fall will need to submit another $3.00 for the Spring. (It was $1 discount for signing up for a full year in advance.)
To make adjustments to your team roster, please have the necessary changes submitted to the WxChallenge Manager by the specified date. Any changes submitted after the deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances. Please submit payment for the changed forecast file by the end of the first period of the Spring semester. If you have any questions, please contact the WxChallenge Manager.

Informational Packets and Sign-up Forms

Informational packets contain all of the information needed for participants to understand the contest and what is required. It contains the contest rules, cities for which will be forecast, demonstration of how to enter a forecast, and a sign-up form. You may also download additional sign-up forms as well.
